This aint plagrism.. this is just news passed from one person to the rest of the world.. you guys..
Anyway, back to SXSW news...
Sundance 2009 turned out to be a banner year for a strong contingent of SXSW alumni. Heading up the list of acquisition deals is Lynn Shelton's Humpday, an unorthodox buddy movie that won over critics and executives alike.
In addition to picking up a VOD and worldwide theatrical deal with Magnolia, the amiable comedy also received Special Jury Prize for Spirit of Independence.
Ry Russo-Young also scored with her feature, You Won't Miss Me, which received a worldwide sales deal from Visit Films, who also picked up animator David Russo's live action feature debut The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle in a similar deal.
E1 Entertainment (formerly Entertainment One) picked up a double whammy with deals for two very well received features, Cherien Dabis' Amreeka and Sophie Barthes' Cold Souls. Both received Canadian deals, with Amreeka also picking up an international deal.
Last but not least, Arthouse Films snagged Doug Pray's exposé of the advertising world, Art & Copy, for a worldwide distribution deal.
Huge congratulations to everyone involved, and to all the SXSW alumni who helped made Sundance 2009 such a fantastic, productive event. Cheers!

Jonathan Coulton to Speak at SXSW Interactive on March 17
0 comments Posted by Jacaranda Flagg at 7:16 PMJust a quick reminder that SXSW will be on March 13-17, 2009... did you get that? Here it is again:
SXSW Interactive: March 13-17, 2009
I'm just teasing.. :)Anyway, here's another cool news about the said event. :
Panel programming at the SXSW Interactive Festival covers a range of geek-related concerns, ranging from blogging to new media business models to web design. Tuesday, March 17 is typically the day that the event tackles the question of how online technology has radically impacted the music industry. This is the case again in 2009, with several sessions related to this topic (including "New Interfaces for Performance" and "Addressing Piracy in User-Generated Content Platforms"). We're also particularly excited about the "Policy Trainwreck: How Copyright Law Failed the Digital Age" session on this day, which will feature the expertise of Dave Allen (Pampelmoose), Michael Petricone (CEA), Nancy Tarr (rockcandy.tv), and Brian Zisk (brianzisk.com). The newest addition to this panel is singer-songwriter Jonathan Coulton, who has built a huge following via his skillful use of the Internet. Be there on March 17 to hear his thoughts on how to get this train back on track.

Japanese Motors, Crystal Antlers Among OC/LB Bands Playing SXSW
0 comments Posted by Jacaranda Flagg at 10:51 PMAt first I thought this "Japanese Motors" dudes, who are going to perform this coming SXSW, the 2009 SOuth by Southwest festival, are japanese.. well looks like they are not.. but if they are really Japanese, my bad.
Anyway, good for them to be performing in SXSW. Not all applications are approved you know. And to be there is a really good exposure!
Here's what we read:
Today is a day to very much live in the present, what with a historic event of some kind going on in Washington DC, but since we're obstinate like that, let's look a couple months into the future--specifically March 13-17 in Austin, TX, for South by Southwest.
We wrote a couple weeks back about the lack of Orange County/Long Beach bands on the initial crop of announced bands, but that's no longer the case, thankfully, as we've got quite a few of our favorite sons (and daughters) among the much, much larger list of bands recently announced, straight from SXSW itself. Not shockingly, two of them are Costa Mesa's Japanese Motors (pictured) and Long Beach's Crystal Antlers, both of whom have attracted national attention and label deals (and both played CMJ in NYC last fall).
Also not so surprising: Most of the bands come from Long Beach, not OC proper. Here's the list:Crystal Antlers (Long Beach)Japanese Motors (Costa Mesa)Magic Lantern (Long Beach)Rocco Deluca and the Burden (Long Beach)Sun Araw (Long Beach)Sara Haze (Lake Forest)Believe it or not, more announcements are to come, and we'll have them here when that happens.

Here's another line up post for the SXSW .. I included the permanent link to give credit and link back google juice to the blog...
The South by Southwest music festival announced a partial list of their acts today, including local power-poppers Hacienda. The list is quite obviously incomplete and is mostly absent of the A-list acts that will most definitely be announced later. Other than Hacienda, probably the coolest piece of news here is that reunited garage-rock pioneers the Sonics will play.
The rest of the list is below, with the groups I will personally vouch for the kick-assity of listed in bold.

A guy from boston, who runs a blog, said that SXSW 2009 may be dominated by Boston Band.. of course. :)
Here's what we read:
Or... sorta the opposite of that. There is only one Boston group on the current list of SXSW Showcasing Bands, compared to 10 bands from New York (including Brooklyn) and 10 from Austin. This probably reflects more on the general trend of Bands Must Be From Brooklyn Or Austin Or No One Will Like Them than on the Boston music scene, and hundreds of bands will be added to the festival before March. Still, it might've been nice to see a few more area folks on the bill by now.
At least the band representing us is pretty damn good. The Everyday Visuals (video above) have a cool name, a sweet sound, and a strong pedigree, having received accolades from the Noise, the Dig, and the Metro. If we end up at SXSW this year (we might need 95 degree weather by then), we'll definitely make sure to see them play—perhaps multiple times. Providence artist Sage Francis is also on the SXSW list.
Other announced artists we might check out include St. Vincent, Buck 65, David Garza, Asobi Seksu, and—if only for the name—My Crew Be Unruly. Kid Sister will be in attendance; if Usher shows up, apparently she'll fart on him. Classy.
Area bands at SXSW last year included White Hinterland, Eli "Paperboy" Reed and The True Loves, Sarah Borges, The Bleedin Bleedins (now Midatlantic), Deer Tick, The Motion Sick, and Ezra Furman & the Harpoons.

Here's another SXSW Line up of "band list to play" at the SOuth by SOuthwest festival in Austin texas.. This time it's from another credible source - from the people at the limewire blog..
Here's what they said:
Please: Don't ask me if I'm going to South by Southwest this year. The answer is no. And in case you're wondering, it's not time I lack—no sir, I've got plenty of that! The sad truth is, I don't have the money for a roundtrip ticket to Austin, and no one, so far, has offered to fly me out. (Oh wait, did I see you offering, big spender? Well... you know where to reach me.)
So, though I hoped the SXSW 2009 line-up would thoroughly suck, looks like I'll be disappointed. SXSW Music, which takes place March 18-22, is part of a larger festivals that begins on the 13th and includes both film and "interactive" events. But I'm not here to talk about either of those, so here are some highlights of SXSW's initial music line-up:
Akron/Family, Asobi Seksu, Buck 65, The Crystal Method (Yes, they still exist. I was surprised, too.), Crystal Stilts, dead prez, Explosions in the Sky, Ida Maria, Kid Sister, Mika Miko, Peter Bjorn & John, Primal Scream (!!!), Ra Ra Riot, Sage Francis, St. Vincent, The Sonics, Thee Oh See's, This Bike Is a Pipe Bomb (Hey, these guys are still around, too!)
Of course, these are, to varying degrees, the "established" bands on the schedule. And, as we know (some of us secondhand, dammit), SXSW is all about stumbling drunkenly into some dive at 3 A.M. and discovering the next big thing. With that in mind, be sure to check out the full preliminary list here, and stay tuned for more updates.

Here's another update from the upcoming SXSW festival event coming this March!
There's this video contest for SXSW that could win you $3000!
The folks over at GeniusRocket are looking for entries to promote the 2009 SXSW (South by Southwest) convention. Create a 30 second to 2 minute video promotion that communicates the event as a convergence for digital music, film, and interactive technology. You can pick up all the branding elements from GeniusRocket, but be aware the site states a winning entry will include several different mediums such as live action, animation, stop motion, etc. They would also like you to include graphics with your submissions that could be used across other marketing tools such as T-shirts, flyers, stickers, etc. If your video is chosen, a $3000 prize will be waiting. oh, google hates duplicate content but i want to spread the word as it spreads.. .and word maening word by word...
As the SXSW festival comes closer expect more news to come!
File this one under news that is sure to please the ladies. Actor Ryan Gosling (The Notebook, Lars and the Real Girl) will be performing with his band Dead Man’s Bones at SXSW 2009.
The band is on the schedule for a showcase presented by their label, Werewolf Heart Records. No time or venue is available for the show as of yet.
View the live video for Dead Man’s Bones’ song In The Room Where You Sleep below. Ryan Gosling is the lead singer and pianist and is joined by Zach Shields on drums.
I’m reserving the right to fully critique Dead Man’s Bones till they have a proper recording available. Judging solely by the live video and accompanying live track on MySpace, I think Dead Man’s Bones has potential.
